How a robot vacuum works
Most 2026 robots use LiDAR (a spinning laser sensor that maps your rooms) or similar laser sensors to build a floor plan. You then pick rooms, set schedules and draw no-go zones in a phone app. Many add a camera or structured light (a light pattern the robot reads to judge distance) to steer round socks, cables and pet mess. When the job is done, the robot returns to its dock to charge, and on most models the dock sucks the dust into a sealed bag.
