Answer two quick questions and we will match you with our top-rated picks.
Robot vacuums have changed a lot in two years. Suction figures have jumped, mopping docks now wash pads in hot water, and even budget models map your home with lasers. That makes choosing harder, not easier, because almost every box now claims to be the best.
This guide cuts through that. We compared current models using independent lab results, manufacturer specs, owner review patterns and real October 2026 prices. We have not run our own hands-on tests, so every claim below says where it comes from. If you already know your main need, jump to our focused guides: pet hair, carpet, hard floors, vacuum and mop combos and budget models.

In depth: every pick

Best overall
1. Roborock Saros 10R
Best for: Most homes, especially with low sofas and beds
- Price
- around $900 (Oct 2026, list $1,599.99); UK price varies
- Suction
- 20,000 Pa (manufacturer figure)
- Navigation
- StarSight 2.0 solid-state LiDAR plus 3D sensors
- Height
- 3.14 in (about 8 cm)
- Self-emptying
- Yes
- Mopping
- Dual spinning pads, hot-water washing, auto mop removal
Pros
- RTINGS names it the best robot vacuum it has tested (Aug 2026)
- Only 3.14 in tall, so it cleans under furniture most rivals cannot reach
- Dock empties the bin, washes pads in hot water and dries them
- Lifts its mops and can leave them in the dock for vacuum-only runs
Cons
- List price is high, though it has been selling for around $900
- BGR's reviewer found black cables harder for it to spot than coloured ones
- Big clean and dirty water tanks still need topping up every few runs
Verdict: The Saros 10R does almost everything well and does it from a very slim body. Lab data from RTINGS puts it at the top of the pile overall and for hard floors. If you can stretch to it at the current sale price, it is the safest all-round choice.

Best for carpet
2. Dreame X50 Ultra
Best for: Carpet-heavy homes and homes with raised thresholds
- Price
- around $999 to $1,099 (Oct 2026) / £1,299 UK launch price
- Suction
- 20,000 Pa
- Navigation
- Retractable sensor tower (VersaLift) plus camera
- Height
- 89 mm with tower lowered
- Threshold climbing
- 4.2 cm single step (ProLeap legs)
- Self-emptying
- Yes
- Mopping
- Spinning pads, one extends to edges, lift or detach on rugs
Pros
- RTINGS rates it the best robot vacuum for carpet it has tested
- Retractable legs (ProLeap) climb a single step of up to 4.2 cm
- Mops lift on rugs and can detach for damp-sensitive carpets
- Two rubber rollers designed to cut hair tangles
Cons
- Tech Advisor found carpet detection in the app inconsistent
- Battery can run down in larger homes, so it may need a mid-clean recharge
- Side brush can still collect hair clumps
Verdict: If most of your floor is carpet, the X50 Ultra is the model the lab data points to. It also copes with thresholds and small steps that stop most robots. It costs more than the Saros 10R right now, so only pay the extra if carpet is your priority.
Best mid-range all-rounder
3. Ecovacs Deebot T90 Pro Omni
Best for: Buyers who want flagship cleaning for well under $1,000
- Price
- around $750 to $800 (Oct 2026)
- Suction
- 30,000 Pa
- Navigation
- Low-profile laser sensor plus camera and structured light
- Height
- 95 mm
- Self-emptying
- Yes, 2.5 L bag
- Mopping
- 10.6 in roller mop, hot-water wash, hot-air drying
Pros
- Vacuum Wars measured 100% pet hair pickup and 0% hair wrap
- Its mopping score was the second highest Vacuum Wars has recorded
- Avoided 23 of 24 obstacles in Vacuum Wars testing
- Roller mop and hot-water dock keep pads clean
Cons
- Small 250 ml onboard bin (the dock empties it)
- Vacuum Wars noted occasional navigation quirks
- Climbed 32 mm in testing, short of the 40 mm claim
Verdict: The T90 Pro Omni matches far pricier robots on pet hair, mopping and obstacle avoidance in Vacuum Wars' lab results. It is our value pick for anyone who wants a full self-cleaning dock without flagship prices.
Best value vacuum and mop
4. Eufy Omni C28
Best for: Mixed floors on a mid-range budget
- Price
- list $799.99 / £649, often around $500 / £549 with offers (Oct 2026)
- Suction
- 15,000 Pa
- Navigation
- LiDAR
- Self-emptying
- Yes, 3 L bag, up to 75 days
- Mopping
- Self-cleaning roller mop, lifts 11 mm on carpet
Pros
- Expert Reviews calls it the best value robot vacuum and mop it has tested
- Vacuum Wars measured 89% carpet deep clean and perfect pet hair results
- Roller mop scrubs as it goes and is cleaned by the dock
- Compact dock compared with most all-in-one stations
Cons
- Mop drying can be loud and last up to five hours (Expert Reviews)
- Weaker obstacle detection than Eufy's camera-equipped models (T3)
- Dock uses dust bags, not bagless
Verdict: The Omni C28 brings a self-washing roller mop and auto-empty dock to a price that, with common offers, sits around $500 or £549. It is the cheapest way into a genuinely hands-off vacuum and mop.
Best under $600
5. MOVA P10 Pro Ultra Gen 2
Best for: Hot-water mopping on a budget
- Price
- around $599 (Oct 2026)
- Suction
- 26,000 Pa
- Navigation
- LiDAR plus front line laser
- Height
- 4.09 in
- Self-emptying
- Yes, 3.2 L bag, up to 100 days
- Mopping
- Spinning pads, 12 N pressure, 212°F (100°C) wash
Pros
- 26,000 Pa suction and 12 N mop pressure on paper
- Dock washes pads at 212°F (100°C) and dries them with warm air
- 3.2 L dust bag, which MOVA says lasts up to 100 days
- Priced at around $599 direct from MOVA
Cons
- At 4.09 in tall, it will not fit under the lowest furniture
- Limited independent lab data so far compared with older rivals
- Uses a front line laser rather than a camera for obstacles
Verdict: The P10 Pro Ultra Gen 2 packs a full hot-water mopping dock into a sub-$600 price. Independent data is thinner than for our other picks, so treat it as a strong value option rather than a proven lab leader.
Best budget
6. Roborock Q7 M5+
Best for: First-time buyers and smaller homes
- Price
- around $300 (Oct 2026, list $429.99); the dockless Q7 M5 is around £120 in the UK
- Suction
- 10,000 Pa
- Navigation
- LiDAR (PreciSense), multi-floor maps
- Self-emptying
- Yes, 2.7 L bag, up to 7 weeks
- Brush
- Anti-tangle main and side brush
- Mopping
- Basic mop pad, 3 water levels
Pros
- RTINGS names the Q7 M5 its best budget robot vacuum
- Wirecutter lists the Q7 M5+ among its top choices (Aug 2026)
- LiDAR mapping with multi-floor maps at a budget price
- Dock holds up to 7 weeks of dust, per Roborock
Cons
- Mopping is a basic drag pad, not a scrubbing system
- Tom's Guide found long human hair can still wrap the brush
- No camera, so it will not dodge socks or cables as well as pricier models
Verdict: The Q7 M5+ gives you the things that matter most: laser navigation, strong suction for the money and a self-emptying dock. Several independent testers rate it the best value in its class.
Cheapest self-emptying pick
7. Tapo RV30 Max Plus
Best for: Hard floors and light shedding on the smallest budget
- Price
- around $230 / £180 (Oct 2026)
- Suction
- 5,300 Pa
- Navigation
- LiDAR
- Height
- 3.9 in
- Self-emptying
- Yes, 3 L bag, up to about 60 days
- Runtime
- Up to 150 min
- Mopping
- Basic pad, washed by hand
Pros
- Self-emptying dock for around $230 or £180
- LiDAR mapping with editable rooms and no-go zones
- Tom's Guide measured 98.6% cereal pickup on hardwood
- Wirecutter lists it among its top picks
Cons
- Tom's Guide measured only 67.8% pet hair pickup on carpet
- Mop pad has to be washed by hand
- 5,300 Pa is modest by 2026 standards
Verdict: If your budget is under $250, the RV30 Max Plus is the cheapest robot we would buy with a self-emptying dock and laser mapping. It is a hard-floor robot first, so pet owners with carpet should look at the Q7 M5+ instead.
How we chose
We did not test these robots in our own homes. Instead, we built a shortlist from the models that independent labs and long-running reviewers rate highly in 2026, then checked each one against four kinds of evidence:
- Independent lab results. RTINGS, Vacuum Wars and Tom's Guide publish measured scores for things like carpet pickup, pet hair, hair tangling and obstacle avoidance. We gave these the most weight.
- Manufacturer specs. Suction, height, dock features and threshold climbing come from brand pages. We treat suction figures with care, because brands measure them in different ways.
- Owner review patterns. We looked for repeated complaints, such as docks failing to empty or apps losing maps, rather than single angry reviews.
- Price. We checked US and UK prices in October 2026. Prices move weekly, so treat ours as a guide.
Any model that had disappeared from sale, or where we could not confirm key specs, was left out.
Which best robot vacuum is right for you?
Start with your floors and your budget, not the suction number.
- Mostly hard floors: the Roborock Saros 10R leads the lab data, and even cheap models do well here.
- Mostly carpet: look at the Dreame X50 Ultra or our carpet guide. Carpet is where cheap robots fall behind.
- Pets: anti-tangle rollers and a self-emptying dock matter more than raw suction. See our pet hair picks.
- You want mopping too: a dock that washes the mop pads is worth paying for. Our vacuum and mop guide goes deeper.
- Under $300: the Roborock Q7 M5+ or Tapo RV30 Max Plus. More in our budget guide.
What to look for in a robot vacuum
Navigation. LiDAR (a spinning laser sensor that maps your rooms) is now standard even on budget robots. It lets the robot clean in neat lines, remember each room and avoid areas you block off in the app. Avoid robots that only bump around at random unless the price is very low.
Obstacle avoidance. Cameras and structured light (a pattern of light the robot reads to judge distance) help it steer round socks, cables and pet mess. This matters most in busy family homes.
Self-emptying dock. The dock sucks dust out of the robot into a bag, so you only empty it every few weeks. For most people this is the single feature that makes a robot genuinely hands-off.
Height. Measure the gap under your sofa and bed. Slim models such as the Saros 10R (3.14 in) reach where taller robots cannot.
Anti-tangle brushes. Rubber rollers and comb designs stop long hair wrapping round the brush, which saves you cutting it free with scissors.
Is suction power (Pa) a reliable guide?
Not on its own. Suction is quoted in pascals (Pa), and 2026 flagships claim 20,000 to 36,000 Pa. But brands test in different ways, and lab results show that brush design and airflow matter just as much. In Vacuum Wars' testing, the Ecovacs T90 Pro Omni measured suction well above average, while some robots with bigger claimed numbers scored lower on carpet. Use Pa as a rough guide to the class of robot, then check independent pickup scores.
A note on iRobot and Roomba
Roomba is still the name many people search for. iRobot went through a Chapter 11 restructuring in late 2025, and on 23 January 2026 it announced it was now privately owned by Picea, its former contract manufacturer. It launched a new Roomba line-up in July 2026, including the Roomba Max 715 and Max 775 Combo. Because those models are new and independent lab data is still limited, none made our top seven. Read our Roomba guide for the full picture.
How long do robot vacuums last?
Most owners report several years of use if they replace brushes, filters and mop pads on schedule. The battery is usually the first major part to fade. Before buying, check that spare batteries and brushes are sold for your model, and that the brand has a track record of app updates. Larger brands such as Roborock, Ecovacs, Dreame and Eufy sell spares widely in both the US and UK.
Frequently asked questions
What is the #1 robot vacuum?
Based on independent lab data in October 2026, the Roborock Saros 10R is the strongest all-rounder. RTINGS ranks it the best robot vacuum it has tested, and it is slim enough to clean under most furniture.
Which brand of robot vacuum is best?
Roborock, Dreame, Ecovacs and Eufy dominate independent top lists in 2026. Roborock leads on navigation and app quality, Dreame on carpet and climbing, Ecovacs on mopping and Eufy on value.
Is Roomba or Shark better?
Both sell capable robots, but neither leads the current independent rankings. iRobot launched a new Roomba range in July 2026 after its restructuring, so lab data is still building. See our Roomba and Shark brand guides for model-by-model detail.
What are the downsides of a robot vacuum?
They need a tidy floor, they miss stairs and very tight corners, and docks and consumables add ongoing cost. Even good robots do not replace a deep clean on thick carpet, as Consumer Reports notes.
Are robot vacuums worth it?
For most busy homes, yes. Daily runs keep dust, crumbs and pet hair under control, so your main vacuum comes out far less often. Our guide on whether robot vacuums are worth it covers the trade-offs.
How long do robot vacuums typically last?
Several years is typical with regular brush, filter and battery care. Buy from a brand that sells spares and keeps updating its app.
