A window cleaning robot is a flat, square or oval gadget that sticks to glass using a powerful fan (suction), then wipes the pane with microfibre pads, spraying water or cleaning fluid as it goes. You place it on the window, press start, and it maps the edges and works its way across the glass.
They are useful for large picture windows, glass doors, conservatories and windows you cannot easily reach from outside. They are not magic: reviewers consistently note they miss a thin strip at the edges and corners, and very dirty or greasy glass may need a second pass. Here is what to buy, and what to expect. Verdict: The best mix of cleaning power, convenience and price in Ecovacs' 2026 range. Its close sibling, the W2 Pro Omni, scored 5 out of 5 for performance from TechRadar.

Verdict: The most hands-off window robot available. Worth it if you have many large panes; overkill for a flat with a few windows.

Verdict: Most of the W2S Pro Omni's convenience at a lower price. A smart buy if you see it discounted.

Verdict: A solid mid-price robot from a specialist window-robot brand. Plug-in only, so plan your extension lead.

Verdict: The best way to try a window robot without spending much. The original Winbot Mini was reviewed by Wirecutter on 12th-floor windows in 2026.
We have not tested these robots. Our picks are based on manufacturer specifications from Ecovacs and HOBOT (checked October 2026), independent reviews including TechRadar's review of the Winbot W2 Pro Omni, Wirecutter's review of the Winbot Mini and critical coverage such as Wired's August 2026 piece "I Tried a Window-Cleaning Robot and Hated It", patterns in owner reviews, and current prices. We prioritised safety features, edge cleaning and ease of use.
A fan inside the robot creates suction (measured in pascals, Pa) that holds it flat against the glass. Motors drive it across the pane while microfibre pads wipe the surface. Sensors detect frames or, on frameless glass, the drop-off at the edge. Most models spray water or a cleaning solution through nozzles, and many use an ultrasonic spray, which creates a fine mist that is less likely to drip.
Safety comes from three layers: a tether rope you fix inside, a backup battery that keeps suction going for 20 to 40 minutes if the power cuts, and sensors that stop the robot if it starts to lose grip.
It can be, if you have:
It is less worthwhile for lots of small, divided panes (each needs setting up), very dirty exterior glass, or if you expect a perfect corner-to-corner finish. Reviewers are split: TechRadar called the W2 Pro Omni one of the most impressive devices it had used, while Wired's reviewer came away unimpressed. Expect to save effort, not to replace a professional window cleaner entirely.
In October 2026, prices range from under $100 for unbranded marketplace robots to around $700 for the Ecovacs Winbot W3 Omni. Most well-reviewed models from Ecovacs and HOBOT cost $180 to $600. We suggest avoiding the cheapest unbranded robots for exterior windows, as safety features and support are harder to verify.
Ecovacs also makes robot vacuums; see our Ecovacs robot vacuum review.
For big panes, patio doors and hard-to-reach windows, many owners find it saves time. It will not clean right into the corners and may need two passes on very dirty glass, so it complements rather than replaces manual cleaning.
For most homes, the Ecovacs Winbot W2S Pro Omni, thanks to strong suction, improved edge cleaning and a portable battery station. The Winbot W3 Omni is the premium pick and the Winbot Mini 2 the budget pick.
Yes, on flat glass with light to moderate dirt. Reviews consistently note a small uncleaned strip at the edges and corners, and some reviewers find them slow or fiddly to set up.
Well-reviewed models cost about $180 to $700 in October 2026. The Ecovacs Winbot Mini 2 is around $179 and the Winbot W3 Omni around $699.
They include safety ropes, backup batteries that keep them stuck on for 20 to 40 minutes if power fails, and edge sensors. Always attach the rope indoors and supervise the robot.
Many can. Look for frameless or edge-detection sensors, such as those on the Ecovacs Winbot range and HOBOT-2S, before using one on shower screens or glass balustrades.
