Our verdict
ElliQ is the only widely available companion robot built from the ground up for older adults, and its proactive style suits people who would not think to ask a smart speaker for anything. The cost adds up over time and the evidence is mainly company and programme data. Read our ElliQ review for the full picture.
What we like
- Starts conversations instead of waiting for a command
- Family can message and video call through a companion app
- Reports from state ageing programmes describe high daily use
- Proactive: starts conversations and check-ins on its own
- Simple video calls and messages with approved family via the ElliQ Connect app
- Reminders, relaxation, exercise videos, games and group activities
What to know
- Monthly subscription; the device is leased, not bought
- Not an emergency alert device
- Some users find frequent check-ins intrusive, according to published reviews
- Ongoing cost, and the device must be returned on cancellation
- Not a medical alert device and cannot call emergency services
