Humanoid Robot for Home: What You Can Really Get in 2026

The short answerThe only humanoid robot for home you can order in October 2026 is the 1X NEO, at $20,000 or $499 a month, and it is a US-only pre-order with no independently confirmed customer deliveries yet. Figure 03 and Tesla Optimus are not on sale. For help today, single-task robots such as vacuums and mowers are far better value.

The idea is irresistible: a robot that walks around your home, loads the dishwasher and folds the washing. Videos of humanoids doing exactly that have racked up millions of views. But a video is not a delivery date, and many demos involve a human controlling the robot remotely.

This guide explains what a home humanoid can and cannot do in 2026, what you would actually be signing up for if you place a deposit, and what to buy instead if you want less housework now. We have not had any home humanoid in our own homes; our facts come from manufacturers, filings and dated independent reporting.

Is there a humanoid robot for home you can buy?

Not in the sense of walking into a shop and taking one home. 1X Technologies opened NEO pre-orders on 28 October 2025 and says it sold out its first year of capacity (more than 10,000 units) within five days. Its factory in Hayward, California began full-scale production on 30 April 2026, but the first robots went to 1X's own R&D lab and internal home testing. 1X's order page still says "US Deliveries start 2026". As of early October 2026, independent trackers had found no confirmed deliveries to paying customers.

You can buy humanoids from Unitree today, from $4,900. But these are programmable research and hobby machines with one to three hours of battery. They do not arrive able to tidy your home.

1X NEO: what it promises

According to 1X's product page, NEO is:

  • 5 ft 6 in tall and 66 lb (about 30 kg), with a soft 3D lattice polymer body and machine-washable knit suit
  • Able to lift 154 lb and carry 55 lb, with an 18 lb arm payload
  • Powered by an 842 Wh battery for about 4 hours, quick-charging at 6 minutes per hour of run time
  • Quiet: 1X claims 22 dB
  • Splash-resistant (IP44 body) with submersible (IP68) hands
  • Run by 1X's Redwood AI model on an Nvidia Jetson Thor chip

Example chores on 1X's site include answering the door, laundry, cleaning the bathroom and putting away dishes. You can buy outright for $20,000 (Early Access, with priority delivery) or subscribe at $499 a month, with a $200 refundable deposit.

The catch: remote operators

NEO cannot do everything by itself on day one. For chores it has not learned, owners can book Expert Mode: a 1X employee guides the robot remotely while NEO learns from the session. When the Wall Street Journal tried NEO in October 2025, most tasks it saw were teleoperated by a person wearing a VR headset. 1X has not published what share of NEO's work is autonomous.

That has real privacy implications. A remote operator may see inside your home through the robot's cameras. Before ordering, ask 1X how sessions are scheduled and approved, what is recorded, who can view it, and how you can block off rooms.

Figure 03, Tesla Optimus and the rest

Figure 03 was presented by Figure as a robot for homes as well as workplaces. But as of July 2026 there was no public price, pre-order or waitlist. Robots are going to Figure's own programmes and partners such as BMW. Figure's CEO told TIME in October 2025 that full autonomous home operation was achievable "in 2026, but it's a big push", and in May 2026 floated a home lease of roughly $400 to $600 a month as an idea, not an offer.

Tesla Optimus has no pre-orders. Elon Musk said in January 2026 that public sales might start by the end of 2027 if reliability and safety targets are met. See our Tesla Optimus guide.

Other makers, including Apptronik, Agility Robotics and Boston Dynamics, are focused on factories and warehouses, not homes.

What a home humanoid can and cannot do (yet)

Plausible in early units: fetching and carrying, tidying items into bins, loading a dishwasher, basic laundry folding, and answering the door, often with remote help for new tasks.

Still hard: cooking safely, working with delicate or unusual objects, stairs in cluttered homes, and anything that needs fine finger control. Robot hands are widely seen as the toughest engineering problem; Musk has called them "shockingly difficult".

Battery: about four hours for NEO, so expect bursts of work rather than all-day help.

Questions to ask before you place a deposit

  1. Is the deposit fully refundable, and until when?
  2. What is the confirmed delivery window, and what happens if it slips?
  3. Which tasks are autonomous, and which need a remote operator?
  4. What data and video leave your home, and who can see them?
  5. What does the subscription include, and what happens if you stop paying?
  6. How are repairs handled, and is there a warranty?
  7. Is it sold in your country? 1X says NEO is US first, with other markets from 2027.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a humanoid robot for home cost?

The 1X NEO is $20,000 to buy or $499 a month on subscription, plus a $200 refundable deposit to pre-order. No other home-focused humanoid had a published price in October 2026.

Are there any humanoid robots available for home use?

Only as a pre-order. 1X NEO takes US orders with deliveries promised in 2026. Unitree humanoids are on sale but are research platforms, not household helpers.

What is the best humanoid robot for use at home?

There is no proven option yet. 1X NEO is the only one designed for homes and open to order, but its real-world performance in customers' homes had not been independently reported as of early October 2026.

Can a humanoid robot do laundry?

1X lists laundry among NEO's example chores. Early home robots may need a remote human operator to guide new tasks, so expect slower, supervised results at first.

How much does Elon Musk's robot cost?

Tesla Optimus has no price and is not on sale. Musk's long-running target is $20,000 to $30,000, with public sales possibly starting by the end of 2027.

Can I get a home humanoid in the UK?

Not yet. 1X says NEO ordering is US only, with other markets from 2027. No other home humanoid has a UK launch date.

Is a home humanoid robot safe around children and pets?

1X designed NEO with a soft body, no pinch points and a light 30 kg frame to reduce risk, but independent safety data from real homes is not yet available. Supervise any robot around small children and pets.
